Every year, hundreds of thousands of stocked pheasants are killed in hunts across the U.S. The chart below illustrates the number of birds annually released in states with pheasant stocking programs.
The data was obtained from information requests submitted to state wildlife agencies and from official agency websites. Where ranges are given, the figures represent the highs and lows between 2000 and 2004. Otherwise, the figures are the average of release numbers from 2000 to 2004, or represent a consistent annual number during that period.
