The 2009 Mako Mania Shark Tournament is taking place June 5-7. Makos are the primary species targeted but there is an added category this year for thresher sharks. Please take a moment to politely contact the individuals listed below and tell them that because both mako and thresher shark populations are in serious global decline, they should not be killed for prizes and bragging rights. The Mako Mania Shark Tournament must be canceled for good.

The village of Freeport is holding its 37th Annual Shark Tournament on June 27. Please call or write Mayor Andrew Hardwick to voice your concern of his support of such a cruel and ecologically damaging tournament. The Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament is scheduled to occur July 24th and 25th in 2009. To help end this cruel contest for good, please contact the Oak Bluffs Harbor Advisory Committee and the Harbormaster of Oak Bluffs, Todd Alexander, and politely tell them to end the town's policy of reserving the entire harbor for the Monster Shark Tournament and that you don't want the tournament blemishing Oak Bluffs' image of a beautiful resort community.
