Our student extern program is an integral part of our work to
train wildlife professionals. Under the supervision of the
center's veterinarian and staff, students participate in
providing medical care for wild animals brought into the
center, and share in the various tasks involved in properly
caring for orphaned young and recovering adult wild animals.
Between 15 and 20 students from all over the United States and
abroad participate in our program each year. Over half of them
are veterinary students; the rest are veterinary technology
students and undergraduates.
Student externs at the Cape Wildlife Center are integral to
achieving our mission of caring for wildlife in need, teaching
others about wildlife and wildlife issues, and encouraging
humane stewardship of wildlife. To learn more about becoming an
extern, or to apply for our externship program, see "Becoming a
Student Extern at the Cape Wildlife Center."
