DES MOINES, IowaThe Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for poisoning a dog on Main Street in Shambaugh, Iowa around September 7.
The Case:
According to the Daily NonPareil, Pup, an-eight-year-old Australian Shepherd, was having physical problems that prompted her family to take her to a veterinary clinic in Clarinda the morning of September 7. Tests determined that Pup was fed hamburger mixed with antifreeze, resulting in a 12.6% blood alcohol level. Pup was euthanized the next day due to her quickly deteriorating condition. Later, Pup's family learned that other dogs in the four-block town were sickened with similar symptoms. Page County Sheriff Mike Williams told The HSUS that he later learned that a total of seven dogs had been poisoned within a 2-3 week period, leading to the deaths of several of the dogs.
