SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing ducks and other animals after a San Pedro city pond was drained last month.
According to media reports, someone pulled the plug to drain one of the duck ponds at Averill Park in San Pedro, CA on or about July 16. Many animals who lived in the pond such as fish, turtles and crawdads died. According to news reports that cited eyewitnesses, ducks were deliberately attacked--including one who was killed by a rock thrown by juvenile assailants. Another child reportedly stomped on a duckling in the empty pond. No arrests have been made.
