DES MOINES, Iowa — The HSUS is offering a $2,500 reward for
information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person
or persons responsible for the death of a cat found hanging on
a tree near the Iowa State campus in Ames on August 13. The
two-and-a half month old case is still open and under
investigation by the Ames Animal Shelter/Animal Control. To
date, an additional $500 has been received in a reward fund set
up by the Ames Animal Shelter and Animal Control.
The Case:
According to the Des Moines Register, a cat was found hanging
by a binding strap from a tree in the 300 block of Beedle Drive
near the Iowa State campus. The cat was clutching onto a nearby
fence and died in that position. The director of the Ames
Animal Shelter and Animal Control believes that the cat was
deliberately killed.
