The Case:
News reports give the following account: Late Jan. 27, horse owner Cathy Troutt heard several gunshots ring through her back yard in the city's southeast side. While investigating her arena behind her home, Troutt found that her 29-year-old quarter horse named Nikki was shot in the stomach and subsequently died.
Animal Cruelty:
Getting the serious attention of law enforcement, prosecutors and the community in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault.
“Those who abuse animals can be dangerous to people,” said Anne Sterling, The HSUS’ Indiana state director. “Indiana residents have no tolerance for violence against animals.”
The Investigators:
Indianapolis Police Department Officer Jeremy Nix is investigating. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call 317-327-6351.
