The 13th annual Spay Day USA took place on Feb. 27, 2007. Thousands of volunteers in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam worked together to save animal lives and end pet homelessness. They spayed or neutered more than 20,000 cats, dogs and rabbits; raised more than a quarter of a million dollars for spay/neuter; and broadcasted the spay/neuter message to nearly two million people.*
In addition, HSUS members and supporters raised more than $91,000 to benefit the spay/neuter efforts of The HSUS' Rural Area Veterinary Services program and 53 eligible humane organizations that held Spay Day USA 2007 events.
The HSUS especially thanks Spay Day USA 2007 event organizers and:
- Spay Day USA 2007's national sponsors, Animal Radio®, Bark, and Purr...fect Fence
- U.S. Senators Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) and John Ensign (R-Nev.), both veterinarians, for publicly advocating spay/neuter on Spay Day USA as a practice of responsible pet ownership
- The HSUS' artist-in-residence Ron Burns, for donating campaign artwork and contest prizes
- "Mutts"® comic strip creator Patrick McDonnell for dedicating two consecutive strips to Spay Day USA
- NASCAR drivers Greg Biffle, Ryan Newman and Ken Schrader for promoting Spay Day USA
- Artist Sandra Merwin, spay/neuter advocate Carol Smallwood and Stephanie Pulver of See Spot Bead for donating prizes for the "Every Spay/Neuter Counts!" and "Do It for Love" fundraising contests
