Since 1995, the National Marine Fisheries Service has
provisionally approved several requests from the Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife for permits to kill sea lions
at Seattle's Ballard Locks. The HSUS and several other
organizations filed a lawsuit in federal court to oppose this
action. The courts ruled against us, but our action undoubtedly
prevented many animals from actually being killed. Three sea
lions were sent to Sea World, but none were euthanized.
