Our opponents claim that horses like these must be slaughtered "for their own good." Help us end this cruel industry and protect horses from a brutal death. |
Raise your voice for horses! Join us Sept. 5-6 for two days of action to end horse slaughter.
Last year, almost 100,000 American horses suffered and died in foreign-owned slaughterhouses so that their flesh could be flown to Europe and Asia for human consumption. We must send a clear signal to the world that our horses are not here for their exploitation and we won't put them on the chopping block for foreign diners.
We don't allow foreign-owned slaughter plants to set up shop here for dogs and cats so that their flesh can be peddled overseas. Why are we allowing our horses to be used and abused in this manner?

Rally for Horses: Sept. 5
10–11 a.m
Lend your voice to the cry to end horse slaughter. Most Americans are shocked to learn that horses are still slaughtered for human consumption overseas. Join representatives from leading animal protection groups and advocates from around the country to protest this brutal industry and rally for an end to horse slaughter.
Lobby Day for Animals: Sept. 5
11 a.m.–4 p.m.
Congress returns from its August recess on Sept. 5. Be there to welcome them back and urge them to take action on several important animal protection issues. The U.S. House of Representatives plans to vote on the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (H.R. 503) in early September. We need to be there to urge them to pass this important piece of animal protection legislation. H.R. 503 would put an end, once and for all, to the slaughter of American horses for human consumption. The legislation enjoys consistently broad and bipartisan support in the House, with 200+ cosponsors.
National Call-In Day for Horses: Sept. 6
9 a.m.–5 p.m.
We need your help to light up the phones on Capitol Hill. Call your U.S. Representative on Wednesday, Sept. 6 and show your support for American horses. Our opponents are vigorously lobbying to keep the horse slaughter industry alive and well. We must send a clear message that Americans do not want our horses butchered and shipped overseas. You can reach your Representative through the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or click here to look up his or her phone number. All you need to say is:
"I am a constituent and I am calling to ask that the Representative please protect American horses from slaughter and support H.R. 503, the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. I am very concerned about American horses and I don't want them slaughtered."
Your calls will not only make a difference, they will help make history.
If you would like to promote the National Call-In Day in your area, download our free mini kit (PDF). We need help from committed animal advocates to post fliers, write letters to the editor, and organize call-in events to their U.S. Representative.
Together, we can raise our voices and end horse slaughter in the United States forever.
