Suit against the National Marine Fisheries Service for failing to protect North Atlantic right whales from collisions with ships. In May 2005, these same groups petitioned the agency for immediate action because of the alarming number of right whales who had been killed in the last 18 months. The lawsuit follows the agency’s denial of the petition in September 2005 and requests that the court set aside the denial and implement emergency regulations to protect right whales from ship strikes.
