The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association (HSVMA) got off to a great start on veterinary school campuses this fall with the launch of our nationwide student chapter program.
Promising Future for Student Chapters
Both the student membership recruitment and Speakers Bureau offerings have been enthusiastically received. These events feature members of the veterinary community discussing hot topics in animal welfare and care.
Students at six schools are working to set up HSVMA student chapters on their campuses, with current student membership exceeding 230.
Meanwhile, HSVMA veterinary consultants have been lecturing at schools and speaking with students about HSVMA and the benefits of joining.
Speakers Bureau Topics:
- "Spay Before They Stray: The Benefits of Early-Age Sterilization"
- "The Inconvenient Truth about Cosmetic and Convenience Surgeries on Cats and Dogs"
- "Feline Frenzy: The Veterinarian's Role in Solving the Feral Cat Overpopulation Crisis"
- "Doing Well Because You're Doing Good: How Helping Animals Can Help Your Bottom Line"
- "Puppy Mills and Irresponsible Dog Breeding: Fertile Ground for Canine Health Concerns"
Check the HSVMA calendar of scheduled presentations, read comments from students about the lectures, or contact Chris Casey, HSVMA veterinary advocacy coordinator, if you are interested in hosting or helping with HSVMA veterinary school presentations.
