Members of The HSUS Animal Rescue team pulled this petite Dachshund from a cramped cage in a West Virgina puppy mill in August.
She was one of more than 900 other dogs who were rescued from the puppy mill and cared for at an emergency shelter. At this shelter, two volunteers met and fell in love with Freedom—as they now call her—and decided to take her home.
If she had not been rescued, Freedom would have probably spent her entire life in a miserable cycle of forced breeding, but now she has become the cherished pet she was always meant to be.
Her new family says they feel honored to be ushering her into a new, comfortable life. Despite years of neglect, Freedom has adjusted quite well to the life of a family pet. She now spends her days frolicking in her own backyard and sitting on the couch with her guardians enjoying treats and belly rubs.
