Dog rescued during Iowa flooding is reunited with his family. ©The HSUS | While in Iowa rescuing animals affected by the floods, The HSUS' field responders were approached by a woman and her son desperate for help. They had been forced to leave their house due to flooding, and they begged The HSUS to go back to save the dog and cat whom they left behind. The little boy tearfully told The HSUS team that he didn't care if he ever saw his toys, bike or video games again, he just wanted to know that his dog and cat were safe. He wanted to hold them again.
The rescue team took the family's information and went to the family's house to rescue the animals. After finding the pets, they took them to The HSUS' emergency shelter where the animals received a medical assessment.
The little boy and his mother rushed to the shelter, and then cried tears of joy as they held their much-loved animals. The family had lost many of their possessions, but the reunion was a good first step toward recovery.
