Stella was one of more than 100 animals rescued from a horrendous puppy mill outside of Montreal in September. Members of The HSUS Animal Rescue team joined forces with the Humane Society International for the first time to shut down this Canadian mass breeding facility.
When rescuers arrived they found dogs living in tiny cages surrounded by their own feces with little or no access to food or water. Our team also found the skeletal remains of several dogs still locked inside their cages and a mound of incinerated dogs outside the home.
Stella, a young boxer puppy, was one of the lucky survivors.
After her rescue, Stella was immediately transported to the emergency shelter set up at the Canadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Montreal.
At the shelter this emaciated boxer was evaluated and received necessary immediate medical care. Once she was placed up for adoption it did not take long for her to find a permanent home. Stella has gone from a life of extreme neglect to being a cherished family pet. Although she suffered many abuses in her former life, she's expected to make a full recovery.

When she first arrived at her new home, Stella weighed only 12 pounds and was too weak to go up and down the stairs without assistance.
But now, with proper diet and veterinary care, this boxer has doubled her weight and enjoys playing with her new human companions and her two canine siblings. Stella's life has turned a complete 180 degrees in just a few short months.
