BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. â At the request of the Broome County Humane Society and New York State police, The Humane Society of the United States today deployed personnel to assist local officials with a large-scale animal cruelty investigation.
During execution of a search warrant on an unrelated matter, police found approximately 215 animals at a residence in Broome County. Authorities believe the animals were housed in violation of New York Animal Cruelty Law.

The HSUS is also feeding the animals, setting up temporary housing and assisting with crime scene evidence recovery. The animals include cats, dogs and farm animals and exotics, including pigs, chickens, alpaca, llama, snakes and spiders.
Jeff Eyre, HSUS director of disaster field rescue, is leading the team of three personnel who are equipped to respond to animal emergencies that exceed the capability of local agencies.
