The HSUS has been overwhelmed by the concern and generosity of people calling and emailing. We have Disaster Animal Response Teams on the ground in Louisiana and Mississippi. This disaster promises to stretch our disaster response resources...
As soon as our teams are deeper into the affected areas, they will determine what supplies and equipment are needed. As every relief organization knows, transportation, warehousing, management, and delivery of in-kind donations are very difficult and must be carefully arranged.
The most effective response is financial contributions. Especially at this time, the cost of fuel is so expensive that transporting most donated items is not cost effective. (The cost of transportation may exceed the value of a donated item.) A financial contribution allows the rescue and shelter teams to purchase what they need close to where it is needed.
Relief organizations like The HSUS are using skilled and experienced animal teams in the initial response due to the extremely difficult conditions. We have many ready to respond and are interested in having more volunteers sign up for future training and deployment to other disasters.
We are highly interested in these types of skilled volunteers:
Veterinarians and Vet Techs
Animal Control Officers
Animal Shelter Workers
Technical Rescue Volunteers
If you would like to volunteer, please send us an email.
