Threats faced by remaining tigers include habitat destruction and poaching. It will require global action if they are to recover. “For years, tigers have been an incredible symbol of nature at its best,” says MUTTS artist and HSUS Board member Patrick McDonnell. “To think that we could lose them in our lifetime is just incomprehensible to me... They shouldn't become just a mythic creature—they should be one of our fellow beings on the planet.” To honor these magnificent animals and promote their conservation, McDonnell featured them in his cartoon strip in the last week of August, 2008.
