Don't Buy Wild! Please look out for wildlife products; speak up against the consumptive use of wild animals; and educate your friends and family on how to avoid supporting the wildlife trade. We invite you to learn more about the issues by exploring the links below.
Some of the many activities and products that put wild animals at risk of inhumane treatment and extinction include:
- Fur, trinkets, and other products made from wild animals and their parts including skins, ivory, tortoise shell, feathers, coral, walrus tusks, and shark teeth.
- Trophy hunting (polar bears, lions, etc), whaling, and hunting of marine and other protected species.
- Use of captive marine mammals for entertainment and display.
- Use of other wild animals for entertainment including circuses, photo ops, and roadside zoos.
- The exotic pet trade including birds, primates, carnivores, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, fish, etc.
- Bushmeat—the consumption of wild animals sometimes considered delicacies, which is often linked to habitat destruction as well.
- Shark finning, or cutting off the fins of sharks for shark fin soup or display and throwing the rest of the shark overboard.
- Medicinal uses including unnecessary research and the use of animal parts such as bear gall bladders, tiger bones and penises, rhino horns, dried seahorses and shark cartilage.
- Destruction or pollution of the environment and critical habitat including coral reefs, sea turtle nesting beaches, rainforest, etc.

- If you see any wildlife products for sale, always assume that they are illegal and inhumane! Laws protecting animals from trade are often confusing, weak, and poorly enforced.
