Habitat degradation, including development, pollution, and climate change, poses a major threat to the survival and welfare of wild animals. HSI helps protect habitat through international and domestic legislation, public education, and collaboration with the The HSUS Wildlife Land Trust. We work to help local people find ways to earn a living that do not involve exploiting local wildlife and habitat. In our oceans, HSI is also actively involved in working for stronger regulation, domestically and internationally, of all sources of human-caused marine noise, including active military sonar, seismic airguns, and shipping.
