Fundación ASOGUAU Protección Animal celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2009. In just a decade, the organization became a force for Venezuelan animal welfare.
In the realm of direct animal care, ASOGUAU manages a seven-doctor low-cost veterinary clinic that treats more than 50 patients per day. Each weekend, their mobile spay/neuter unit brings veterinary services to the most impoverished neighborhoods of Valencia. Since 2001, they have spearheaded an innovate program designed to reduce the population of homeless dogs and improve the welfare of the existing animals on the University of Carabobo campus.
ASOGUAU is also active in the public policy arena. Through a collaboration with the mayor of Naguanagua, they were able to pass legislation banning live-animal circuses in the municipality. They are the only municipality in Venezuela to have done so.
In 2007, ASOGUAU joined HSI in celebrating the Blessing of the Animals.
ASOGUAU was a participant organization in HSI's first Spay Day International in 2008.
For their hard work on behalf of Venezuelan animals, HSI was honored to welcome ASOGUAU as an Animal Advocate in 2009.
