Photo Contest
An online pet photo contest was one element of an annual event designed to tackle worldwide overpopulation of dogs and cats.
More than 45,000 animal lovers around the globe entered their pets' photos in the second annual Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest. Spay Day International organizations entered photos and garnered votes to raise more than US$6,000 for their ongoing spay/neuter efforts. The top international fundraiser, Spay/Panama, raised over $2,000 for their ongoing sterilization programs.
In total, the contest raised more than $550,000 for spay/neuter efforts worldwide, with nearly half of that going to local participating animal organizations and the remaining to fund HSI and The Humane Society of the United States's spay/neuter initiatives.
Since its inception in 1995, more than 1.5 million dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered as a result of Spay Day. View a slideshow of the photo contest winners.
