INTERNS, Humane Society International Farm Animal Welfare
The Humane Society International Farm Animal Welfare (HSIFAW) department works to move animal agriculture industries away from systems and practices that cause enormous suffering to the billions of animals raised and killed for meat, eggs, and milk, while influencing policy-making bodies, scientific and governmental leaders, and corporations through research, engagement, and partnerships with other stakeholders. HSIFAW is seeking full- or part-time interns with an earnest attention to detail. Online research skills a plus. DIRECTOR FARM ANIMALS, Humane Society International
Humane Society International (HSI), the international division of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), is seeking a Director for its Farm Animals section. The main responsibilities of this position will be to develop and direct the work of HSI's Farm Animals section. Other duties include, but are not limited to: serving as an expert on factory farming and farm animal welfare in advocating for policy reforms to improve the treatment of animals used for meat, egg, and milk production, globally; overseeing the work of section's staff members and consultants; serving as primary liaison between the section and other departments within HSI and HSUS; collaborating with NGOs, corporations, government officials, and others, globally, in developing and implementing anti-factory farming/pro-farm animal welfare efforts; and representing the organization on committees and at conferences, in addition to securing speaking engagements. A minimum seven years experience in animal advocacy or policy development with a strong background in farm animal issues and managerial experience are required; and a Master's Degree in a related field is strongly preferred. Experience advocating internationally for policy reforms to improve farm animal welfare; extensive knowledge of farm animal welfare issues, as well as understanding of factory farming's impacts on myriad sectors, including environment, farmers, communities, development, and consumers; and the ability to comprehend scientific literature regarding farm animal welfare, including health, are desirable. Excellent communication, research, writing and oral presentation skills; ability to collaborate both within and external to animal advocacy sectors; strong organizational and time management skills and a commitment to animal protection are preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the Worldwide Web necessary. Extensive travel may be required. NEW MEDIA FUNDRAISING MANAGER, Humane Society International
Humane Society International (HSI), the international division of The Humane Society of the United States, is seeking a New Media Fundraising Manager for its Online Communications team. The position will drive online revenue for HSI by creating and managing a variety of programs, content, and communications designed to acquire new donors and maximize revenue-per-donor. Other duties include, but are not limited to: develop and implement a wide variety of donor acquisition programs, including online marketing, online gift catalogs, online and broadcast DRTV, and integration with telemarketing and direct mail; boost revenue-per-donor through tactics such as data segmentation, frequency, and variable ask amounts; identify and develop donor engagement paths in conjunction with online and offline channels; and liaise with country and regional offices to develop and implement in-country fundraising programs online. A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, liberal arts, communications, marketing, or related field and at least three years’ experience in fundraising preferably for an advocacy or other nonprofit organization highly preferred. Demonstrated experience in and/or knowledge of web development processes and online advocacy and fundraising, a strong desire to work on behalf of animals and some background in international work desirable. The ideal candidate has worked on a web team, has had experience creating new web properties in an international context or with an international reach, and is a strategic thinker about using the Internet to achieve program and development goals. RESEARCH ASSISTANT, HSI Wildlife
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Research Assistant for the Humane Society International Wildlife department. The main responsibilities of this position will be to provide research, website drafting, and other support to the international wildlife department on international wildlife and policy issues; and to act as a liaison between the department and other departments, professional associations, the public and consultants on our international wildlife efforts as appropriate. Other duties include, but are not limited to: assist the department with legislative, scientific, policy and other research and analysis as necessary to formulate and support arguments for maintaining and increasing international wildlife protection through international treaties and agreements and other means, and to improve enforcement and compliance within these agreements; assist the department with international wildlife protection efforts and strategies including helping to develop and conduct campaigns, drafting website stories and alerts, creating reports and presentations, searching databases, drafting fact sheets and letters, and assisting with outreach efforts to the public, policymakers, and organizations; coordinate input for departmental reports, consultant efforts, joint projects with other organizations, memberships with professional organizations and intergovernmental agencies, and projects in conjunction with other departments; and provide administrative support and carry out other related duties as assigned. A Bachelor's Degree in biology or a related field is desired. Experience with Internet and database searching, strong computer skills (MS Office), and analytic, organization, teamwork and project management skills preferred. CAMPAIGN MANAGER, Humane Society International
Humane Society International (HSI), the international division of The Humane Society of the United States, is seeking Campaign Manager for the Humane Society International (HSI) Wildlife department. The main responsibilities of this position will be to lead campaigns for the HSI Wildlife department under the supervision of the Deputy Director and the Director of the department. Other duties include, but are not limited to: coordinate corporate outreach relating to the campaigns; build public support for the campaigns; develop web content and, when appropriate, web design for the campaigns, coordinating with HSI’s representatives of E-community and others within the Humane Society; conduct web outreach, contribute to building an international electronic activist base, and develop actions alerts and other communications to international activists in cooperation with E-Community; promote the campaigns in the media and before international audiences; manage the creation of, including writing, international campaign materials, such as letters, reports, and fact sheets; work cooperatively with allies from relevant international and in-country NGOs; as appropriate, hire and oversee the work of service providers to aid in the implementation of campaigns; as appropriate, work with legislatures and other governmental bodies around to world to achieve campaign objectives; perform information gathering and research on the campaigns; contribute to Wildlife department program planning and reporting activities; carry out other campaign and outreach related activities as assigned.
A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field, and one to three years experience in outreach for a non-profit advocacy organization and/or one to three years experience in animal protection or related field strongly desired. The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of campaign outreach, including the technical and strategic aspects of developing electronic networks and implementing action alerts, an understanding of effective web content and presentation, excellent writing skills and the ability to effectively target messages to diverse audiences, strong analytic, organizational, and project management skills, and the ability to work well in teams. A strong interest in advocacy for animals plus a desire to quickly learn diverse subject matter relating to the protection of animals, written and spoken fluency in Mandarin Chinese and knowledge of Asian cultures, and a willingness to travel are highly preferred. PROGRAM MANAGER, LATIN AMERICA & CARIBBEAN, Humane Society International
Humane Society International (HSI), the international division of The Humane Society of the United States, is seeking a Program Manager, Latin America and the Caribbean. The main responsibilities of this position are to manage and coordinate a variety of international programs and projects, with particular focus on Latin America and the Caribbean, and to assist executive and administrative directors with duties relating to the activities of HSI and its regional offices. Other duties include, but are not limited to: participate in formulation of program strategy and in the initiation and development of new international projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, including budgets for the same; identify and develop international project proposals for area of responsibility; prepare and submit regular reports of activities, trip reports, and other reports as requested; develop and maintain contacts with activist individuals and organizations throughout the region; prepare information, articles, and other documentation for use in HSUS/HSI publications and on-line resources (i.e., website, electronic library, etc.); keep abreast of animal-protection related issues in the region and keep directors informed of the same; act as a resource of information for The HSUS and HSI staff on issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean, and supervise response to constituent complaints and requests for information relating to international issues within area of oversight. A Bachelor’s degree in related field, previous management experience and experience with foreign travel highly desired. Knowledge of world animal protection issues, good verbal and written communication skills/computer skills/Internet competency, strong organizational skills, ability to work independently/take initiative/maintain confidentiality, and fluency in Spanish required.
