This Season, Fur-Free Is the Fashion |

Each year the fur industry kills over 50 million animals. On squalid fur farms, over 45 million animals, from minks to foxes, spend their short lives in cages until workers end their misery using deadly methods such as neck-breaking or anal electrocution. Traps in the United States and abroad also slam shut on millions of wild animals like bobcats, beavers, and coyotes. Off-season fishermen even club seal pups on the ice floes of Canada, sometimes skinning them alive.
All of this suffering occurs in the name of fashion.
Which is why The Humane Society of the United States has launched the Fur-Free Campaign to fight the exploitation of animals for their pelts. Our campaign works with consumers and the
fashion industry to expose the suffering involved when using fur and fur trim as a fabric. The Fur-Free Campaign engages the fashion industry—the driving force behind those traps and clubs—through outreach to retailers, designers, fashion editors, and consumers.
Timed with the appearance of this year's fall and winter fashions, the Fur-Free Campaign is asking consumers to take a pledge not to purchase items with fur or fur trim. To spread the word about this gruesome substitute for fabric, we are running a series of full-page ads in People magazine that will reach more than three million shoppers. We are also alerting our online community to the reality behind the glossy pictures and evasive labels.
Get the surprising facts on the use of fur trim. Find out why you can't count on labels to give you the whole truth on what's in that garment you're considering buying.
Then, please join the fight against the fur industry by taking our quick online pledge.
