Shopping for Back-To-School Clothes?

August 9, 2007

New Fur-Free Fashion List from The Humane Society of the United States

Just in time for the fall shopping season, The Humane Society of the United States, the nation's largest animal welfare protection organization, launches its fur-free retailer list for back-to-school shoppers.

Animal loving consumers are more concerned than ever with making sure that the animal-friendly "faux" clothing they purchase is, in fact, faux. This past winter, an HSUS undercover investigation showed the public that many "faux" fur items being sold at national retailers were in fact made of dog or other real fur.

In response to The HSUS' investigation, an increasing number of retailers and designers are rejecting cruelty and potential consumer deception by adopting fur-free policies. The HSUS fur-free retailer list includes 50 stores or designers that indicated publicly or to The HSUS that they do not currently sell fur or are phasing in a fur-free policy. Some of which are (listed at random):

  • Abercrombie & Fitch
  • Gap, Inc.
  • J. Crew
  • Club Monaco
  • Foot Locker
  • Guess?
  • Victoria's Secret
  • Urban Outfitters

For a complete list, go to: www.humanesociety.org/furfreeshopping. Use this list as a guide; however, The HSUS urges you to always double check any product to ensure it is cruelty free before purchase.
