The Humane Kansas Legislative Network is a coalition of national and state associations, organizations, businesses, and individuals who support stronger state laws to protect animals from inhumane treatment, cruelty, abuse, and neglect. The Network successfully lobbyied for the enactment of S.B. 408, which will:
-
Classify the most serious acts of animal cruelty as felonies the very first time they are committed.
-
Mandate that offenders convicted of such acts be subject to minimum jail sentences and fines and undergo psychological counseling or anger management programs.
-
Prohibit offenders convicted of such acts from owning an animal for a period of five years.
