Become a "Party Animal" Host and Help Reduce the Suffering of Farm Animals |
 |
February 24, 2006
WHAT:
Through its “Party Animals” grassroots house party program, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is coordinating a nationwide advocacy effort to help reduce the suffering of the billions of animals raised for food in the United States every year.
The “Party Animals” program is based on the effective grassroots political model used in the last presidential election. Our version brings like-minded people closer to our legislative work and mission and energizes them to take action for animal protection. It allows them to network with others in their communities to make change. People come together on one-night at one-time for a party with a purpose. Separate party-goers from around the country enjoy their own festivities but all parties take part in a simultaneous nationwide conference call to hear speeches by leaders in the animal welfare movement.
There are currently nearly 150 parties being planned in 40 states and Washington, DC, but The HSUS is still looking for “Party Animals” to participate as hosts and guests for more parties.
SPEAKERS:
All party attendees will phone into a conference call with Michael Markarian, president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund, and other special guests.
WHEN:
Parties will be held on Sunday, February 26. The nationwide conference call will start at 7:30 p.m. eastern.
WHY:
Farm animals suffer in greater numbers than any other animals in America. The Humane Society Legislative Fund works to pass humane laws and to stop the needless suffering inflicted on countless animals by factory farming, and is working on several legislative issues at the local, state, and federal levels to shine a light on the most egregious and abusive practices in modern-day agribusiness.
HOW IT WORKS:
Each party is an advocacy event and fundraising occasion to raise funds to benefit the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF), the lobbying arm of The Humane Society of the United States. Hosts create their own individual web sites with a fundraising goal and email invitations to friends and family. Participants will be able to dial in to a conference line to hear directly from HSUS leaders and special guests. Party hosts will also receive a party box stuffed with materials for their guests including fact sheets, brochures, recipes, and other special goodies. Parties can be open to the public or restricted to friends of the host. Donations to this fund are not tax-deductible. Attendees can donate to the HSLF through a website created for each party site.
