Score a Touchdown for Animals with Veggie Dogs and Burgers

January 30, 2008

You'll make no concession on taste if you go veg for the game.
As we look forward to the Superbowl, thousands of humane-minded football fans are making food choices that help animals. At sports stadiums and in front of the TV, many fans are opting for vegetarian alternatives to factory-farm animal products. A recent Wall Street Journal even reported recently on NFL star Tony Gonzalez choosing a vegan diet.

Vegetarian versions of burgers and hot dogs are tasty and satisfying. They also spare factory-farmed animals a life of suffering and a painful death at the slaughterhouse. On factory farms, mother pigs, egg-laying hens and calves raised for veal are confined in restrictive cages so small they can barely move.

It's never been easier to find delicious and healthy vegetarian versions of game day favorites.

Veggie dogs and veggie burgers are available at sports stadiums across the country, and for Superbowl parties, it's easy to find a wide variety of animal-friendly options at grocery stores. Here are some of our favorites.

Veggie Dogs: Lightlife brand's Smart Dogs and Tofu Pups; and Yves' brand Veggie Dogs, Tofu Dogs, and Hot 'n' Spicy Chili Dogs

Veggie Burgers: Amy’s brand All-American Veggie Burger, Bistro Burger, Texas Burger, California Burger; Boca Burger Original; Gardenburger Garden Vegan; Gardenburger Texas Burger; and Morning Star Farms Grillers Vegan
