Paul Shapiro will share his perspectives at the UPC conference.

Paul Shapiro will speak on "moving the ball forward for farm animals" at the upcoming United Poultry Concerns conference on March 29 and 30, 2008.

Shapiro, senior director of The HSUS's Factory Farming Campaign, will examine the latest advances for farm animal protection and argue that recent progress—cities and states abolishing cruelties such as gestation and veal crate confinement and foie gras production and sales—represents both short-term and long-term benefits for animals.

Other conference speakers will include

  • Karen Davis, president of United Poultry Concerns
  • Harold Brown, president of Farm Kind
  • Patty Mark, president of Animal Liberation Victoria in Australia
  • Christine Morrissey, director of East Bay Animal Advocates in California
  • Roberta Schiff, president of Mid-Hudson Vegetarian Society in New York

The conference will be held at the Hilton Norfolk Airport Hotel in Norfolk, Va. Those who sign up before March 15 will save $15 on the registration fee.
