Have a Heart for Farm Animals This Valentine's Day |

January 30, 2007
Instead of celebrating Valentine's Day with only your loved ones, why not extend the warm sentiments of the holiday to those who are often the most unloved—farm animals.
Confined on factory farms across the country, billions of animals suffer terrible abuses and are denied the most basic opportunities to fulfill their behavioral needs, even simple needs such as fully stretching their limbs or breathing fresh air.
This Valentine's Day, each one of us can make a difference for these animals just by making more compassionate choices.
Not all animal products are equal when it comes to animal welfare. Each industry has its own abusive practices, and some are much crueler than others. For example, the billions of animals in the chicken, egg, turkey, and pork intensive factory farming industries suffer far greater than those in the beef industry.
Simply refining your diet by choosing cage-free and free-range meat, eggs, and dairy products—instead of the conventional factory farm products that make up much of what's sold in our markets—is a good step toward helping to diminish animal suffering. What better day to start than Valentine's Day?
