A chicken's beak is her primary means of touching, feeling, and picking up objects. In the egg factory farming industry, however, most hens are "beak-trimmed" to reduce feed costs—beak-trimmed birds have difficulty grasping and swallowing feed. Part of hens' beaks are sliced off with a hot blade, and without any pain relief.
