Beef Cattle: Their Lot in Life

Approximately 35 million cattle are raised for beef each year in the United States. Most are castrated, de-horned, and branded—painful procedures performed without any anesthesia. After grazing on ranges for seven months, they are transported to feedlots like the one shown above, where they are fattened on unnatural diets until they reach slaughter weight.
