| Soon after hatching, up to 20,000 chicks are dumped into a shed on a broiler factory farm. In the 1950s, it took 84 days to raise a five-pound chicken. Due to selective breeding and growth-promoting drugs, it now takes 45 days, and the chicks will spend virtually all of that time inside the same warehouse. |
