Alamogordo Primate Facility, located on Holloman Airforce Base, houses chimpanzees that were handed over in 1999 by the now-defunct Coulston Foundation in order to settle violations of the Animal Welfare Act. Charles River Laboratories received a contract by National Institutes of Health to run the facility in 2001. While no actual research or testing goes on at this site, the chimpanzees are available for research use at other institutions.
