University of Colorado to Obtain Dogs from Class A Dealers |
 |
 |
 | March 18, 2002
March 2002—In the wake of pressure from animal protectionists
and legislators, the University of Colorado has decided to
purchase research dogs exclusively from Class A dealers, i.e.,
breeders licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In the
past, the University has bought dogs from Class B
dealers—brokers who obtain animals from sources such as
shelters, auctions and other dealers, some of whom have been
linked to the black market.
During 2001, eight of the 125 major medical schools in the
U.S. decided to completely eliminate the use of animals in
their curricula. For more information, visit the Doctors
Against Dog Labs website.
