 | November 25, 2002
Johns Hopkins University's Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT), along with the university's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), is introducing a course in 2003 on the enhancement of humane science. The course will be offered to all faculty and graduate students in the life sciences as well as all laboratory technicians who work with animals in laboratories. The course will cover "proper experimental design (including statistics) and the role of pilot studies in minimizing animal use and refining experiments, as well as many refinement issues: humane endpoints, enrichment, post-surgical care, pain management, and the impact of stress on the quality of data."
