"Celebrate Chimpanzees" Student Drawing Contest Winners Announced |
 |
 |
 | July 23, 2009
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) congratulates the winners of the "Celebrate Chimpanzees" student drawing contest. The winning drawings are featured below.
The contest, sponsored by The HSUS, ran from April 1 to June 1, 2009 and was open to all U.S. students in kindergarten through 6th grade. Entrants were encouraged to create drawings that depicted chimpanzees in a sanctuary or natural habitat. The grand prize winner will receive a $500 savings bond. Six finalists will receive $25 gift certificates to Toys R Us.
The contest was designed to help bring attention to the nearly 600 chimpanzees residing in U.S. sanctuaries after spending decades of their lives suffering in laboratory settings. More than 1,000 chimps still live in nine research labs throughout the U.S. For more information about chimpanzees used in research, click here.
