The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) is an international federation of animal protection organizations—including The Humane Society of the United States—whose goal is to convince cosmetic and household product manufacturers to sign on to the internationally recognized Corporate Standard of Compassion of Animals.
In 1996, CCIC members joined forces to clear up the ambiguities and loopholes associated with the many "cruelty-free" designations. As a result, the CCIC crafted the Standard, a rigorous policy that ensures manufacturers and suppliers will not conduct or commission animal tests and will not use any ingredient or formulation that is tested on animals.
The HSUS encourages consumer-product manufacturers to adopt the Standard, and the number of companies that have done so is growing internationally.
The CCIC, along with their partners in Europe, developed a "Leaping Bunny" logo for cruelty-free companies who comply with the Standard to use on their product labels or in their advertising. More information about Leaping Bunny is available at www.leapingbunny.org.
The PDF version of the most recent CCIC brochure is now available.
