Fighting dogs suffer painful injuries, even death. |
For more than half a century, The HSUS has stood in the forefront in the battle against animal fighting of all kinds.
Among other things, our End Dogfighting in Chicago campaign is defining new strategies to direct young people away from the cruelty of dogfights and will soon be launched in Charlotte, N.C., and Atlanta, Ga.
Around the nation, we have joined with law enforcement officials and attorneys general in 18 states to announce our national animal fighting reward program, which offers up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of animal fighters.
Many are aware that we assisted in gathering intelligence used to charge Michael Vick with dogfighting. Recently John Goodwin, manager of animal fighting issues for The Humane Society of the United States, was interviewed for an upcoming TV documentary about the case.
The television special, airing Aug. 24, 2008, at 10 p.m. on Animal Planet, offers its own reprise view of the Michael Vick dogfighting case. Produced by Towers Productions, the graphic program reinforces two vital points: Americans have no tolerance whatsoever for dogfighting, and nobody is too famous or too rich to defy the laws that prohibit it.
