Reward Offered In Scottsdale Animal Cruelty Case

June 29, 2007

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for fatally beating ducks and geese at Scottsdale’s Chaparral Park.

The $2,500 reward offered by The HSUS is in addition to $5,000 from the Arizona Humane Society/Silent Witness and $1,300 from the Animal Defense Council in Tucson, which brings the total reward offered in this case to $8,800

The Case:
At least 43 ducks and geese have been brutally beaten in three separate attacks over the last month. Thirty-four have already died from injuries sustained. The birds seem to have been beaten with a plastic bat that was found at the scene. They suffered injuries ranging from broken bones to punctured lungs.

Animal Cruelty:
The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. The HSUS First Strike Campaign® raises public awareness and educates communities about this connection while providing a variety of resources to law enforcement agencies, social work professionals, educators, legislators and families. The HSUS offers rewards in animal cruelty cases across the country and works to strengthen laws against animal cruelty. Visit humanesociety.org/firststrike .
