The Humane Society of the United States Offers $2,500 to Catch Thieves or Recover Dogs
The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people who broke into the Sumter County Humane Society in Americus, Ga. between the hours of 11 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday. The trespasser(s) allegedly stole five dogs, two of whom were being held as evidence in a dogfighting case.
According to Jackie Sellers, director of the Sumter County Humane Society, the five dogs were of different breeds and were being housed in separate areas throughout the shelter. The dogs being held as part of a dogfighting case were pit bulls. The three other stolen dogs were an elderly rottweiler, a beagle puppy and Labrador-mix puppy. The reward is also being offered for information leading to the recovery of the five dogs.
"The Humane Society of the United States hopes that this reward will encourage anyone who has information about this case to come forward and help us find those responsible for stealing these dogs," said Cheryl McAuliffe, Georgia state director for The HSUS.
The Sumter County Humane Society is also offering a reward of $500. Anyone who has information about this case is asked to contact the Americus Police Department at 229-924-3677.
