The HSUS Thanks Holland M. Ware Charitable Foundation for Donation to Help End Dogfighting

August 27, 2007

The Humane Society of the United States today expressed its gratitude to the Holland M. Ware Charitable Foundation based in Hogansville, Ga. for the donation of $200,000 to help the campaign to fight dogfighting in America.

Thanks to the Ware Foundation, The HSUS is able to increase its standard reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in dogfighting or any other form of staged animal fighting from $2,500 to $5,000.  The grant will also allow The HSUS to produce and air public service announcements on animal fighting throughout the United States.

"I have always loved animals, and I am so proud to be able to provide financial support to The Humane Society of the United States to combat animal cruelty," stated Holland Ware.  "Animal fighting is inhumane and unacceptable.  I am pleased to back the great work of The Humane Society of the United States."

Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS, emphasized the importance of this grant: "I want to thank Mr. Ware for his remarkable support.  Recent headlines have brought attention to this cruel misuse of our best animal friend - the dog. Now is the opportune moment to bring animal fighting criminals to justice and put an end to this bloodsport forever."

The Holland M. Ware Charitable Foundation is dedicated to many philanthropic endeavors and has assisted The Humane Society of the United States in other communities giving relief to animal shelters in fire and flood damaged areas.
