Handling Fighting Dogs in Animal Shelters

Problems created by animal fighting don't end in the pit. Animal shelters must often house and care for the victims of the bloodsport, who are the living "evidence" in criminal trials.

The HSUS's "Animal Sheltering" magazine tackles issues shelters face because of animal fighting, including the status of dogfighting in the United States, guidelines for housing fighting dogs, and ways animal shelters are working to prevent the spread of animal fighting.

For more information on the role of shelters in caring for fighting dogs, see "Animal Sheltering's" Dogfighting Investigations: Where We Stand.
