Law enforcement personnel called upon to investigate crimes involving animal abuse are often thwarted due to lack of evidence that could help them identify perpetrators. Many such crimes are never solved, and others would remain unsolved without the cooperation of informants.
While some informants are motivated by conscience, others require a monetary incentive. To that end, The HSUS offers a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for violating anti-cruelty statutes.
The additional resource the HSUS reward system provides to law enforcement has yielded tips that led to convictions of criminals ranging from dogfighters to young men who have bludgeoned and shot vulnerable, helpless cats.
If you live in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania or West Virginia and are aware of an act of animal abuse that is being actively investigated by the pertinent authorities—police, SPCA agent, or other authorized humane investigator—please contact the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office of The HSUS, or ask the law enforcement agent to do so, by calling 973-927-5611 or emailing maro@humanesociety.org.
