Mindy Gilbert is Alabama state director for The Humane Society United States. With more than 20 years of experience in animal protection, Gilbert joined The HSUS in 2008.
In her position, she is active on many fronts to promote animal welfare legislation, fight animal cruelty in all forms, respond to animals in danger from man-made and natural disasters, and engage like-minded citizens to promote the protection of animals.
Prior to her current position, she was director of Decatur Animal Services and the Walker County Humane Society. She also has worked as an animal cruelty investigator in the Greater Birmingham area.
Gilbert has been involved with the Alabama Humane Federation for more than 10 years, serving as president and as a board member. She has also chaired the legislative committee.
Additionally, she was involved in getting the state’s felony anti-cruelty law passed as well as laws that ban hog-dog fighting spectacles and that require animals to be spayed or neutered before they are adopted.
Gilbert lives in Jasper with a much-loved animal family.
