Laura Bevan is director of The Humane Society of the United States’ Eastern Regional Office. An expert in animal cruelty and animal fighting, she began her HSUS career in 1987 as program coordinator of the regional office in Tallahassee.
During her tenure, Bevan has conducted investigations into such activities as animal dealers, animal collectors, horse and dog racing, animal fighting, and ritual animal sacrifice.
She has lobbied the legislatures of several states in the region and has been instrumental in the passing of numerous animal protection laws. They include animal fighting, humane euthanasia, felony animal cruelty, dangerous dogs, pet shops, animal friend license plates, etc.
She has extensive experience in working natural disasters, specifically hurricanes, wildfires and floods. She served on an ad hoc committee that developed Florida's disaster plan for animals and wrote the Disaster Planning for Animals manual published by The Humane Society of the United States.
