Jordan Matyas is the Illinois State Director for The Humane Society of the United States.
Before joining The HSUS in May 2008, Matyas, a lawyer, worked on a bill to ban the use of carbon monoxide euthanasia chambers in Illinois.
During his undergraduate years at The George Washington University in Washington, Matyas worked in the White House press office as an intern. He later worked as manager of the press office for Vice President Al Gore and as press assistant during Gore's 2000 presidential bid. Matyas’ career in politics included stints as deputy press secretary for the Democratic Leadership Council in Washington and as press secretary for an Indiana Congressional race.
Since returning to Illinois, Matyas has served as counsel to Illinois Speaker of the House and then worked for the Governor in the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations.
Matyas lives in Chicago with his dogs, Roy, an 11-year-old basset hound, and Bertha, a 3-year-old therapy dog. Bertha works with patients who have suffered a spinal cord injury, a stroke or traumatic brain injury.
