Jennifer Hobgood Florida State Director 850.386.3435 jhobgood@humanesociety.org
Jennifer Hobgood is Florida state director for The Humane Society of the United States. Before joining The HSUS in January 2005, Hobgood earned her doctorate in English from Florida State University and taught English at the college and university level for eight years before turning her affinity for animals into a career in animal protection.
During her tenure with The HSUS, Jennifer has investigated puppy mills, animal hoarders, and animal fighting operations. She has been active in The HSUS’ Humane Society Veterinary Services Appalachian program that provides sterilization and healthcare at no cost to rural and underserved areas.
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Hobgood assisted The HSUS’ response effort in Mississippi. She has successfully lobbied numerous governmental agencies on a variety of animal protection measures and has been instrumental in promoting wildlife and habitat protection reforms in Florida, most recently gopher tortoise and manatee protections.
