Jeremy and Sarah Battles are passionate about two things: running and their pets. For this year’s New York City Marathon on November 1, they’ve combined the two. Jeremy, a skilled and dedicated runner with six marathons under his belt, has turned his New York City Marathon run into a
charity fundraiser for The Humane Society of the United States.
“We want to educate people,” he said. “When my wife and I hear about people who have puppies or kittens and they say they don’t want to spay or neuter them, we just cringe, because we know how many cats and dogs get put to sleep because of overpopulation.”
Jeremy’s goals are to raise $2,000 for The HSUS and to run the marathon in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
“I’ve never run for any charity before,” he said. “We wanted to raise money for something we can believe in, and we love animals.”
The Battles have three beloved pets in their tiny apartment: kitties Hudson and Sydney and dog Scooter.
“I’m always heartened by the many ways our members support our work to build a more humane society,” says Patrick Kwan, New York state director for The HSUS. “But I think Jeremy and Sarah are definitely going an extra mile or two for the animals here!”
