The Second Annual Genesis Awards was held before a lunch-time
crowd of nearly 400 people. The distinguished group of 20
winners included syndicated ABC radio commentator Hugh Downs,
the
MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour, ABC radio's medical/health
talk-show host Dr. Dean Edell, and
Star Trek IV: The Voyage
Home (whose award was accepted by Leonard Nimoy).
The ceremony marked the first time that we presented the
Doris Day Music Award, which honors an outstanding,
animal-sensitive composition. The inaugural award went to
composer Paul Winter for his "Whales Alive," a brilliant series
celebrating the haunting voice of the humpback whale.
Most Memorable Moment:
We more than doubled our attendance in just our second
year.
